One challenge I have as a Dungeon Master is always finding interesting and challenging monsters for players that are level 10 and above. This problem becomes even more challenging after level 15-20. I have mentioned other monster books that help with additional original monsters but they also can struggle with providing those monsters that are not the ultimate bosses, but still provide a stiff and unique challenge to an experienced party.

If you are looking for additional ideas for all levels of monsters, I can’t speak highly enough about the following:

  • Flee, Mortals
  • Grimhollow Grimoire
  • Where evil lives
  • The Crooked Moon

They are all available on DnDBeyond except for the Grimhollow Grimoire.

But the one book that has come to my rescue multiple times is Vecna – Eve of Ruin. There are multiple high-level monsters from the legend of Vecna, but also many others.

Perhaps my favourite are the multitude of high-powered spiders. These are fantastic opponents that are all unique and powerful in their own right. I really appreciate them as I feel that giant spiders are horrifying creatures whose stat blocks don’t match their potential. Perhaps I have been scarred by the terrifying images of Shelob in The Lord of the Rings movies, but that is a monster that could send any seasoned adventurer running for cover.

Vecna – Eve of Ruin provides multiple individualized spiders that are guaranteed to provide that extra challenge for your seasoned adventurers that need a new challenge.

I really commend Wizards of the Coast for this addition. Yes, the adventure could be better, but the original monsters are worth the price alone.

Check it out if you are in need of that next level challenge.
