The party returned to Gundbarg to retrieve their reward from Granny Saltwood. The party discussed how they wanted to approach Granny Saltwood as the cave was certainly different than what Granny had described.
Eventually the party agreed that they would not be too confrontational and instead try and negotiate a fair deal. Tarin was firm to negotiate something extra for their troubles and the fact that they weren’t told the whole truth. Granny Saltwood somewhat relented and said that although we didn’t have anything else of value, she would give the party one of her half-seal/half cat pups. Tarin was overjoyed at this and rushed to pick one out. Tarin cradled the pup in his arms and named him ‘Buttons”.
The party left Granny Saltwood and went back to the Inn before they left in the morning. They rented a small Keelboat with the help of Captain Greysail and set off the next morning with Captain Greysail and two additional crew members. The party was able to successfully navigate through narrow channels and pulled up to Fiskrbak late in the second day.
They moored their boat and saw In the centre of the scattered slate-roofed houses a large, thatched feast hall. The doors to the chamber were decorated with the colossal jaws of some monstrous shark that could easily swallow a man whole.
The party walked straight in and saw two long tables on either side of a narrow fire pit that runs the length of the hall, over which roasted a handful of large sea bass and a single pig. Crowded in groups around the tables are twelve tribal warriors, and at the end of the hall, a large bearded Berserker sat in a wooden throne.
The Berserker introduced himself as Jarl Skotha Frostgale and he proclaimed:
“Who are these foreign folk in my hall?”
“If you are friends then take a seat at my table and have an ale. If you are foes, you picked a good day to die.”
The party quickly explained that they were sent here from the Lord’s Alliance to investigate the crash. That calmed the Jarl somewhat, but he still seemed less than pleased.
The Jarl ranted about King Olgrave’s ‘foolish love of the “‘Lord’s Alliance’ and claimed that if he were King, he would restore Gundarlun to its former glory.
The Jarl is eager for the party to head to the site of the crash, which is an hours’ walk north of Fiskrbak and he informs the party of his knowledge of the crash:
“The crash happened almost three tendays ago. Several frightened villagers came to tell him about a star that had fallen from the sky, killing some of their family. When he went to look, he discovered that it was a strange metal ship. I want the crash cleared up. If you can make sure it’s not dangerous, I’ll happily send my men to throw it into the sea.”
With that the Jarl called for more food and drink and invited the party to sleep in the hall before they investigated the crash in the morning. The party agreed and drank and ate their fill.
The party set out the next morning for the crash site. The journey was uneventful and they saw the crash after they rounded a sand dune on the beach.
The sight before the party seemed entirely alien. A strange, twisted, metal ship of some sort has smashed into the ground, crumpling up and scattering debris far and wide. A few feet from the wreck are three human corpses that look as if they’ve been there some time. The otherworldly vessel seems to be incomplete, as if torn from a larger structure. Despite this, the ship is larger than most of the houses seen on Gundarlun.
Foul smelling vapours hiss from the wreckage, burning the back of their nostrils. As the party circled the empty hulk, they noticed bizarre, tentacle-like metal tubes emerging from it.
The party first examined the corpses and could see that they were human fisherfolk that appeared to be here for a number of days. They continued on to examined the tentacles.
The tentacle design was unlike anything the party have seen before. It was obvious that the metal is a foreign substance, has a slight iridescent quality, is incredibly strong, and yet has been forged into a highly flexible appendage.
The party discovered that around the crash there was a hole in the side of the craft. The jagged metal walls were sharp to the touch, and twisted tubes spouted noxious gases into the air.
The party entered carefully. The contents of this room have been destroyed; smashed glass vials cover the floor, thin metal wires are strewn about the place, and crumpled metal instruments litter the desks. The party found small shards of coral from broken jewellery on the ground. The party was able to discern that these shards were once part of an idol of Sekolah – a Sahaugin god.
The party observed that there were exits to the east and west. The party first investigated the room to the east and it appeared that this room was ripped in half from a larger ship. The party later found tracks from Sahaugin all around this room. It appeared that they were not the first party investigating the crash.
The party went back into the main chamber and opened the door to the west. They emerged into a huge circular chamber dominated by a gigantic brine pool which levitated a few inches off the ground. The pool was surrounded by alien architecture that was horrifying to behold. The structure seemed to be an unnatural mixture of molten rock and metal, covered in otherworldly hieroglyphics that fold together and separate as they are observed. The whole chamber gave off an aberrant malignancy.
The party looked back and saw two triangular tanks that seemed to be filled with dead tadpoles. Upon closer inspection, floating in these pools are dozens of dead tadpole-like creatures with vicious little teeth and slender tentacles.
Suddenly a figure lunged from the corner, a tall humanoid resembling a green-skinned elf lurched toward the party. It had clearly suffered tremendous wounds in the crash; it’s left leg buckled under its weight, and it had a huge gash across its chest. The creature’s armour too has been damaged and hangs off its frame haphazardly. The creature swings a vicious silver sword in a wide arch at the party with surprising strength.
The creature swung at Tarin and missed. The party converged on the creature and quickly felled him. As the alien humanoid crumpled in a heap on the ground, the party heard a horrifying burrowing noise. As the party watched, a quadripedal brain ruptured from the back of the creature’s skull and burrowed a way out.
The party surrounded the Intellect Devourer and slayed him before he could escape.
The party then explored the Brine Pool. They were all trying to hold Evan David back from diving in. Thankfully, Kaelen stepped forward and cast a spell to move the water to reveal the bottom of the pool. This satisfied Evan David’s curiousity and the party moved on to examine the rest of the room.
Kaelen is awarded an inspiration for saving Evan David from himself.
Before the party departed, they retrieved pieces of coral idol of the sahaugin god Sekolah. They also retrieved the scimitar and a piece of the tube from the exterior of the craft.
The party returned to Fiskrbak and informed the Jarl on what they discovered.
Hearing about the sahuagin tracks in the crash, the Jarl tells them to head toward the Wreck of the Golden Crown if they wish to learn more, as that is where the sea devils lair is. He also warns the characters not to stray into the ruins of the Berranzo mine, claiming that the Calishite who built it cursed the place with greed.
The party thanked him and the Jarl called for a celebration before they left in the morning.
The party awoke in the morning with vicious hangovers and unsure if they would journey to the Wreck of the Golden Crown, the Berranzo Mine, or back to Fiskrbak.
