The party decided to visit Lord Neverember to share with him what they experienced in the House of Knowledge. They were able to get an audience with Lord Neverember and confirmed that the aboleth was indeed granted passage to study at the House of Knowledge. The party learned that the Aboleth’s had convinced Lord Neverember that the deep ocean was going sour in addition to the pirate attacks increasing and the fish stocks decreasing. Lord Neverember also shared that the Kuo Toa’s had helped to flood the House of Knowledge to make it more hospitable for the Aboleth.
Lord Neverember thanked them for their assistance in saving the Aboleth and provided information about the various locations in Neverwinter that they may wish to explore.
- Moonstone Mask – Inn that provides rooms of all status
- Beached Leviathan – Rough tavern made out of an old ship. Favourite amongst old sailors,
- Neverdeath Cemetery – There are stories of the undead awakening during the battle. Lord Neverember doesn’t take the stories seriously.
- The Fallen Tower – Old tower that has been turned into a tavern.
- Cloak Tower – small group of wizards have gathered there to turn it into a magic academy.
- House of a Thousand Faces – Tavern that is a good source of news and rumours
- Fisher’s Float – small fishing village. Good place to find sailors for hire.
- Pirate’s Skyhold – floating island 100 feet off of the ground. Home base of a Black Dragon, Garrundar the Vile and his gang of lizard folk.
The party left to explore Neverwinter to see what state the city had been left in after the attack and if they could discover any more information. The party saw that the city was slowly returning to normal. The injured and wounded were still being transported to healing houses and the dead, friend and foe, were being disposed of. Some sense of normalcy was returning to Neverwinter.
The party first stopped at the House of a Thousand Faces Tavern and were asked if they were Harpers. The party answered honestly that they were not and the proprietors, Theyris and Toram, welcomed them in but informed them that they would have to leave when official Harper business started. The party inquired about any additional information that the Harpers may know, but found that there was no new information for non-Harpers. The party drank their ales, thanked Theyris and Toram and left.
The party continued on east and saw the Cloak Tower in the distance. They had decided to visit the Cloak Tower to see if the wizards could help to repair the cube they had found. They continued on their way and got caught up sightseeing such that they never noticed a Githyanki ship attacking the Cloak Tower. When they got closer they finally saw the Githyanki leaving the Cloak Tower and speeding off. The party raced up the Cloak Tower but found the top floor ransacked and the body of a wizard. They tried unsuccessfully to revive the wizard. Kaelen noticed that the robe the wizard was wearing was very rare and took it for his own.
The party left and decided to decided to investigate the rumours of the undead arising at the graveyard. When they arrived they saw that there appeared to be a dozen zombies and a couple of wights that had re-awoken. The zombies and wights were contained within the closed gates of the cemetery. Evan David was unable to refrain himself and opened the gates and attacked the undead.
The rest of the party reluctantly joined the battle and efficiently dealt with the undead. The party explored the cemetery after the battle and discovered that it seemed that the undead had indeed crawled out of their graves. Finding nothing else of value, the party continued on.
Kaelen is awarded an inspiration for correctly deducing that the undead were awoken due to the attack on Neverwinter by the sksletons.
The party next decided to explore the Fallen Tower tavern and found that it was a rough tavern that catered mainly to Orcs and ne’er do wells. They were welcomed by the Orc owner – Vagdru One-Ear. They asked Vagdru One-Ear more questions about the attack but Vagdru One-Ear provided no additional information. They also noticed an elderly Orc in the corner that caught their attention and they soon learned that the Orc was Shonka White Eyes and she was a Orc Claw of Luthic – a seer.
Vagdru One Ear mentioned that if they offered her respect by buying food and ale, she would provide them a reading. The party gladly agreed to this and approached Shonka.
Shonka went into a trance and provided a reading, Using her claws, she sketched an image in the dirt; a ship with a skull over it, a blank scroll, a moon, a sun and a second moon, and finally a dragon’s head.
The party asked Shonka what it meant but she was unable to interpret the reading and voraciously ate her food. The party thanked her and moved on.
The party decided to next check out the Beached Leviathan and sure enough the tavern was created from a ship – each part of the tavern was referred to as if it were still a seaworthy vessel such as the ‘hold’ which contained the bar and kitchen. The walls of the tavern were decorated with trophies including sahuagin skulls and the carapace of a giant crab. The party asked if anyone had seen Stormlord Arden. The owner Harrag offered that he had seen him a few days ago and that he was known to frequent the Fisher’s Float village. The party thanked him and after left for the Fisher’s Float after they finished their ales.
The party finally made their way to the Fisher’s Float and found the tavern to be empty except for one table. They asked the bartender if he knew of a Stormload Arden and he gestured to the one occupied table,
At the one table they found the Harbourmaster Len-Jes talking to a weathered sailor. They introduced themselves and mentioned Jarl Frostgale had mentioned Stormlord Arden. Stormlord Arden immediately recognized the name of Jarl Frostgale and agreed to honour his debt and take them to Waterdeep.
Stormlord Arden mentioned that he first must honour his recently made commitment with Len-Jes and visit the island of Mintern and the village of Narino. Len-Jes explained that the supply of mercenaries has all but dried up and Neverwinter depends on mercenaries for their city watch.
Len-Jes also shared information about the Kraken Society wondering if they were behind the lack of mercenaries.
Founded by Slarkrethel- rumoured to be an actual Kraken, the Kraken Society consists of assorted scallywags searching for a better life. The psychic powers of the King of the Trackless Depths were so potent that he influenced those in desperation throughout the Realms to join his cause; to ascend to divinity. The society is formed of devout worshippers on the islands of Purple Rocks, who provide a tribute of their children to Slarkrethel to maintain their bountiful oceans.
On the mainland are spies who lurk in the shadows of cities and towns, gathering information for the kraken and partaking in dark rituals to further his power. Many of these spies lead double lives and occupy high stations within major cities along the Sword Coast.
Stormlord Arden welcomed the party to join him if they dared and then they would continue on to Waterdeep.
The party quickly agreed and they prepared for the voyage.
