The party agreed to journey to Luskan to investigate their involvement in the attacks on the Sword Cost. The journey to Luskan was uneventful and they arrived in Luskan two days later.

The City of Sails often conjures romantic images of a magnificent port metropolis, majestic merchant galleons with bright sails, and dashing swashbucklers who greet their enemies with a playful wink and a tip of the hat.

In reality, Luskan is anything but that. It’s a dirty dive with filthy streets, squat buildings, ramshackle docks, creaky old longships, and crass pirates thinly disguised as sea traders.

Five High Captains rule the city. Each one is a glorified pirate lord who controls a fleet of longships. The five fleets serve many purposes: they defend Luskan against seafaring barbarians and other enemies, they conduct legitimate sea trade up and down the Sword Coast, and they raid and plunder the island kingdoms to the west.

Luskan’s best-kept secret is that the High Captains are under the sway of Jarlaxle Baenre, the leader of a clandestine brotherhood of drow mercenaries and rogues called Bregan D’aerthe. Jarlaxle is a master schemer (and a master of disguise) who would like to bring Luskan into the Lords’ Alliance, but the City of Sails has such an unsavoury reputation, and so little to offer, that most alliance members won’t allow it.

The party sought out Jarlaxle Baenre and were informed that Jarlaxle Baenre could be found on Cutlass Island. The party made there way to Cutlass Island and were questioned by the guards as to their business. Eventually they were granted an audience with Jarlaxle Baenre to discuss the attacks on the Sword Cost.

Jarlaxle Baenre shared that Luskan had no part in the attacks on the Sword Coast, but that factions in Luskan had been discovered to be harbouring pirates. Jarlaxle Baenre shared that all the pirates had been expelled and are known to have taken redfuge at Driftwater Docks. The party thanked Jarlaxle Baenre for this information and took their leave.

The party decided that they would got to Baldur’s Gate on their way to Driftwater Docks. The journey to Baldur’s Gate was uneventful and they approached Baldur’s Gate in two days.

To their dismay, the town of Baldur’s Gate appeared to be under attack as they approached. They could see one tower in flames and the remnants of a battle at the docks.

The party could see two ships in the distance sailing away and one ship preparing to pass them in the bay. The party instructed their crew to intercept the ship and board the ship. Their ship slammed into the pirate ship and the party attacked!

The party soon learned that the ship was captained by Drowned Wulfgar and he instructed his horde of Sea Spawn to attack. The battle was fierce but short. The party decimated the pirates using a combination of cold steel, Spirit Guardians, and Cone of Cold. The party defeated all the Sea Spawn and captured Drowned Wulfgar to interrogate.

Evan David was successful in interrogating Drowned Wulfgar and they learned that the pirates were here to kidnap Ramazith Flamesinger, a sage over a century old whose expertise lies in marine life. The party docked both ships and quickly proceeded to Ramazith’s Tower.

The party approached Ramazith’s Tower and could see the front door was ajar and that smoke was still coming out of the windows on the third floor.

The party entered and found the first floor was dominated with a large tank filled with twelve ixitxachitl. The party swiftly moved to the stairwell and continued to the second floor.

The second floor was dominated with a grove. This room had been split into two fenced off groves, filled with wildflowers, shrubs, and a single birch tree.

The tree suddenly moved and struck Acanthodoris! The party quickly converged and dealt with the animated tree swiftly. The party then continued up to the third floor. On the third floor the party discovered the bodies of Sea Spawn that had been killed. This floor looked that a battle had been recently fought here.

The party then found a library filled with polished mahogany bookshelves. Quickly scanning the books, they noticed that most of the books are about marine wildlife and ecology, with titles such as ‘Ramazith’s Compendium of Marine Monsters’, ‘The Ocean Deep’ and ‘What is a Whale?.’

Kaelen continued to examine the books and found a scroll of Awaken, scroll of Animate Objects, and a Scrimshawed scroll case amongst the books. The party then discovered a door to the study and encountered Ramazith Flamesinger.

They entered into the study adorned with cabinets of ancient fossilised creatures and dried out marine specimens. Suddenly, they noticed a white-haired man with wild eyes and brightly glowing hands standing just around the corner. He screams out incredulously. “You dare enter the tower of Ramazith Flamesinger?!”

Ramazith Flamesinger accused the party of being in collusion with the attackers that tried to kidnap him. After many attempts the party was able to convince Ramazith Flamesinger that they were not here to kidnap him.

Ramazith Flamesinger shared that he just wanted everyone to leave him alone. Ramazith Flamesinger also shared finally that perhaps they came to kidnap him because he recently discovered the lair of Slarkrethel.

The party finally thought they understood why the Kraken Society sought to kidnap Ramazith Flamesinger. The explained their quest and finally the trust of Ramazith Flamesinger was won.

Ramazith Flamesinger gave the party the map to Slarkrethel’s lair along with a Pearl of Power, Potions of Greater Healing, Potion of Water Breathing, Ring of Protection, +1 Sickle, and Ramazith Flamesinger’s Spellbook. Kaelen gleefully flipped through the spellbook.

The party thanked him and assured Ramazith Flamesinger that they will put them to good use and end the attacks on the Sword Coast.

The party left and discussed where they would go to next – Driftwood Docks, the Lair of Slarkrethel, or to explore Baldur’s Gate.
