Session 7 Recap
The party carefully moved forward and took shots at Orc Guards at the front of the chamber. The party retreated down the passages and the two Orc Guards followed. The party heard the familiar voice of Pybbnick – “Those are the ones I was telling you about!”. They suddenly heard an unfamiliar female voice speak “Deal with them! End them all”. This was followed by the sound of a controlled spell implosion and the female voice wasn’t heard from again.
A deep bellowing voice, which the party thought was the Goblin King, commanded “Get them you worthless grubs”.
All of the Orc guards moved forward to attack, but the party smartly retreated down the passages and were able to deal with the Orc guards two by two. When the first Orc Guard was killed, it immediately turned into ice. Quickly after the ice vaporized leaving no trail of the Orc Guard that once was there. The remaining Orc Guards moved forward and showed their hatred for Dwarves, taunting Kifak – “Coward of a Dwarf!”
It wasn’t long before the fellowship was able to eliminate all the Orc Guards. Each of the Orc guards first turned to ice and then vaporized leaving only a few specks of ice behind.
Once all the Orc guards were dealt with, the fellowship then moved into the main chamber to attack the Goblins. Jesoc and Kifak then ran recklessly into the crowd of Goblins earning themselves inspiration for their bravery and lack of common sense. The Goblin King shoved Pybbnick forward with the rest of the Goblins and shouted “Get them you imbeciles! Protect me!”
Hallamir attempted to entangle the Goblins, but they were able to resist the effect. Arbun targeted Pybbnick and with two arrows prematurely ended the Gnome’s life. The rest of the fellowship was able to easily defeat to rest of the Goblins leaving only the massive Goblin King.
The Goblin King moved forward but the fellowship was too much even for one of his stature. After vicious rounds of attacks, Jesoc was able to finally defeat the Goblin King. The Goblin King swayed and teetered and fell back towards Kifak. Kifak tried to scramble out from beneath the toppling Goblin King, but unfortunately tripped over his own feet and the Goblin King landed on him with a thud.
Kifak groaned and then screamed “Get him off of me!!!”
The party was able to free Kifak and they gathered themselves. They searched all the Goblins but found nothing of value. The fellowship decided to carry on even though they were hurt and exhausted. They continued north to follow the smell of fresher air. When they got to a fork in the passage, Arbun was able to smell blueberries and fresh air. Arbun told the fellowship that this indicated Conjuration magic ahead. The fellowship agreed to follow the smell of blueberries and fresher air.
They soon came to a stone bridge crossing a large chasm. Floating above the bridge was a Fire Wraith that stared at them and simply asked – “Password?”
The fellowship tried several password ideas in several languages but nothing seemed to appease the Fire Wraith. Jesoc decided to move forward and see if the Fire Wraith would let him pass. The Fire Wraith struck Jesoc with his Scimitar and Jesoc retreated.
Kifak went back to search the body of Pybbnick to see if they missed something. Kifak found that Pybbnick had the half-filled triangle insignia on his garb. Kifak searched more and found a plaque with a white tower insignia. Kifak took the plaque and returned to the stone bridge.
Kifakl showed the plaque with the white tower to the Fire Wraith and the Fire Wraith floated to the side to let them pass.
The fellowship followed the path and the smell of fresher air. Arbun told the party that the smell of blueberries had faded. They continued on and found a series of empty chambers off of the path with nothing but hay, dirt, and bits of food – whatever was here was now gone. They soon found a pit that seemed to serve as a latrine and quickly moved on from the stench.
The fellowship then heard a fluttering sound from their left and went to investigate. They discovered a chamber with dozens of normal bats hanging from the ceiling. Detecting nothing extraordinary or unusual about the bats they continued on.
The fellowship continued marching upward and the air got fresher and fresher. Finally, they heard the shouting of Orcs ahead. They soon saw a chamber ahead with seven Garroter Orcs guarding a closed stone door on the far side of the chamber. The fellowship got excited as they saw daylight streak through the crack of the door.
Kifak moved into the room a showed the white tower plaque to the Orcs. The Orcs sneered and said “She means nothing to us!” The battle was engaged and the injured and exhausted fellowship put all their efforts into battle one last time. They were able to defeat the Garroter Orcs and Kifak opened the door showing light of the late afternoon on the eastern slope of the Misty Mountains.
The fellowship quickly made their way down the mountain side and camped once they were far enough away. They discussed whether to take revenge on the mayor of Maethleburg or continue on to the Wood Elves realm. Aenwyn reminded them that she had given a Palantir to the scout to return to the king of the Wood Elves.
Begrudgingly they all agreed that revenge would have to wait.
