The party looked behind them again and saw the pirate ship in the distance.

“The prow of the blood red ship is tipped with a vicious iron ram. As the blade slices through the water toward you, you notice two prominent figures standing at the helm. The first is a lumbering ogre who is missing an arm. Forged onto the stump of the missing limb is a huge anchor, which the creature uses to steer the ship’s wheel. Standing just behind the beast is an ashen-skinned tiefling with eyes like glowing embers wearing a tricorn hat. He plants his goat-like legs firmly on the deck and raises a strange metal tube toward The Voyage. With a tremendous blasting sound, the tube seems to explode in a ball of smoke.”

Captain Greysail called the crew to action! She implored the party to help rowing to try and get The Voyage away from her pursuer, The party was successful and the ship slowly pulled away. Captain Greysail next challenged the party and the crew to climb up an re-align the sails to catch more of the wind. The party was successful and they pulled away a little more but not enough for Captain Greysail’s liking.

Finally, Captain Greysail looked to Kaelen and requested him to navigate a way through the waves and swells to finally pull away. Kaelen expertly selected a path and The Voyage sped away, leaving the pirate ship in its wake.

The captain of the pirate ship shook his fist at The Voyage at yelled:

“Keep your eyes peeled for the red hull of The Devil’s Fin! Watch your backs in every port!”

Captain Greysail finally relaxed after she put a couple of hours between The Voyage and the pirate ship. The crew relaxed over a meal and shared the following additional rumours:

  • The soldiers of Gundarlun are all manning the Kingsfleet, a group of nearly two hundred longships that protect the island and surrounding ocean from pirates and sahuagin raiders.
  • Rumour has it the vessel that crashed fell from the sky in the territory of Jarl Frostgale on the west coast of Gundarlun. Some strange creatures managed to escape the vessel and kill a few farmers.
  • Nobody who witnessed the crash survived, but the remains are there for all to see.
  • Most folk think the crash is just a strange wrecked pirate ship and the deaths were caused by the crew. All this hearsay about falling from the sky and monsters inside the wreck are foolish superstition.

The rest of the night passed without incident and the party awoke to another perfect day for sailing. In the middle of the following day, the party heard the crew yelling:

“Man Overboard!”

Captain Greysail asked for a volunteer to go down and retrieve the survivor. Galo Waveborn volunteered and expertly climbed down, retrieved the survivor and brough him aboard.

The crew soon found out that he was a survivor from a Sahaugin attack but that he also witnessed the crashed ship they have been sent to investigate. Although he sounded delerious, he shared that his name was Atley Bourne and that:

  • the vessel fell from the sky in the territory of Jarl Frostgale on the west coast of Gundarlun.
  • Some strange creatures managed to escape the vessel and kill a few farmers.
  • the remains are there for all to see.
  • I saw it! I swear

Captain Greysail ordered the crew to take him below to rest and provide him food and water. The crew took Atley below deck and Captain Greysail returned to steer The Voyage.

The rest of the day’s sailing passed without incident, but when they awoke in the morning Atley Bourne was gone without a trace. The party examined the deck and quarters for clues but could not find anything that indicated what happened to him.

The next two days passed without any events worthy of note. The weather was beautiful and the winds were at their back.

Finally on the sixth day they saw in the distance:

“Looking out to sea, you spot a small ship on the horizon. It’s obscured by some waves and mist, but you can see it keeling dangerously on the wind-stoked waves. Within it is a large bundle, about the size of a human.”

Captain Greysail ordered The Voyage to approach slowly.

“Suddenly, a scream cuts through the howling wind. A six foot-tall, piscine creature has speared a crew member on a crude trident. The creature’s shark-like jaws open wide, revealing row upon row of serrated teeth, which are poised to sink into the crew member’s neck.”

A band of Sahaugin boarded the Voyage and attacked! Captain Greysail urged the adventurers to fight as this was what they were hired for. The battle was engaged and the Sahaugin battled viciously. One Sahaugin spit something in the face of Evan David, rendering him unconscious. The party would later discover that he was poisoned.

Kaelen smartly cast Thunderwave causing two Sahaugin to be thrown overboard while Galo pushed another Sahaugin over. Acanthodoris and Tarin were valiant in battle, striking fear into the Sahaugin with every strike.

Eventually the party was able to defeat two bands of Sahaugin that attacked and sent the survivors fleeing into the sea.

Captain Greysail thanked them and a crew member, Shandri Dundragon, shared that she was a Cleric and healed Evan David,

The party climbed down to examine the boat and found a survivor and a chest, Bern Rimewave shared that his family was also attacked by the Sahaugin and that the chest did not belong to him, but the Sahaugin.

Hearing that, the party opened the chest and found some potions and a small idol. When the idol was examined the following vision was experienced:

“Suddenly, your mind is bombarded with the image of a muscular, blue tentacle wrapping ever tighter around the idol, snapping the fins from it. Without warning the vision dissipates, leaving you lightheaded.”

The party members shared vision they experienced. They were interrupted by Captain Greysail shouting at them:

“We have arrived!”

Emerging from the salty mist which hangs over the ocean is the island nation of Gundarlun. Piercing the sea spray on the eastern peninsula is a crumbling fortress which overlooks Gundbarg, the island’s only port.

As the wind catches in the sails, The Voyage beings to pull in toward the islands.

“Don’t worry,” the reassuring voice of Captain Greysail calls out to you over the crashing waves “the folk here are only half as violent as the ocean that surrounds them!”

The crew began mooring The Voyage to the pier as the party started to look at the buildings in the distance.
